Mystic River

Die twee great oomblikke vir my was beide Laura Linney sn. 1) Die "Dont make her laugh" oomblik wanneer haar dogter in die kerk afstap en loer vir pappa.

Shakespeare

The Comedy of Errors

E. DROMIO

I am an ass indeed; you may prove it by my long ears. I have served him from the hour of my nativity to this instant, and have nothing at his hands for my service but blows. When I am cold he heats me with beating; when I am warm he cools me with beating. I am waked with it when I sleep; raised with it when I sit; driven out of doors with it when I go from home; welcomed home with it when I return; nay I bear it on my shoulders as a beggar wont her brat; and I think, when he hath lam'd me, I shall beg with it from door to door.

Henry VI

Henry se laaste woorde in die kerker, voordat (toekomstige) Richard III hom doodsteek.

KING HENRY

Hadst thou been kill'd when first thou didst presume,
Thou hadst not liv'd to kill a son of mine.
And thus I prophesy, that many a thousand
Which now mistrust no parcel of my fear,
And many an old man's sigh, and many a widow's,
And many an orphan's water-standing eye-
Men for their sons, wives for their husbands,
Orphans for their parents' timeless death-
Shall rue the hour that ever thou wast born.
The owl shriek'd at thy birth- an evil sign;
The night-crow cried, aboding luckless time;
Dogs howl'd, and hideous tempest shook down trees;
The raven rook'd her on the chimney's top,
And chatt'ring pies in dismal discords sung;
Thy mother felt more than a mother's pain,
And yet brought forth less than a mother's hope,
To wit, an indigest deformed lump,
Not like the fruit of such a goodly tree.
Teeth hadst thou in thy head when thou wast born,
To signify thou cam'st to bite the world;
And if the rest be true which I have heard,
Thou cam'st-

GLOUCESTER

I'll hear no more. Die, prophet, in thy speech.

The Taming of the Shrew

GREMIO

I am agreed; and would had given him the best horse in Padua to begin his wooing that would thoroughly woo her, wed her, and bed her, and rid the house of her!

The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Julia & haar maid Lucetta, na 'n fight

JULIA

Is't near dinner time?"

LUCETTA

I would it were,
That you might kill your stomach on your meat,
And not upon your maid.

King John

KING JOHN se laaste woorde

O cousin, though art come to set mine eye!
The tackle of my heart is cracked and burnt,
And all the shrouds wherein my life should sail
Are turned to one thread, one little hair;
My heart has one poor string to stay it by,
Which holds but till thy news be uttered,
And then all this thou seest is but a clod
And module of confounded royalty.

Love's Labour's Lost

PRINCESS

We are wise girls to mock our lovers so.

ROSALINE

They are the worse fools to purchase mocking so.
That same Berowne I'll torture ere I go.
O that I knew he were but in by th' week!
How I would make him fawn, and beg, and seek,
And wait the season, and observe the times,
And spend his prodigal wits in bootless rhymes,
And shape his service wholly to my hests,
And make him proud to make me proud that jests!
So pertaunt-like would I o'ersway his state
That he should be my fool, and I his fate.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

HELENA

We, Hermia, like two artificial gods,
Have with our needles created both one flower,
Both one sampler, sitting on one cushion,
Both warbling of one song, both in one key,
As if our hands, our sides, voices and minds,
Had been incorporate. So we grew together,
Like a double cherry, seeming parted,
But yet an union in partition,
Two lovely berries moulded on one stem;

Romeo & Juliet

FRIAR LAWRENCE

A greater power than we can contradict
Has thwarted our intents. Come, come away.
Thy husband in thy bosom there lies dead;
And Paris too. Come, I'll dispose of thee
Among a sisterhood of holy nuns.

The Merchant of Venice

SHYLOCK

You have among you many a purchased slave,
Which, like your asses and your dogs and mules,
You use in abject and in slavish parts,
Because you bought them; shall I say to you
'Let them be free, marry them to your heirs -
Why sweat they under burdens, and let their palates
Be seasoned with such viands?'. You will answer
'The slaves are ours'. So do I answer you;
The pound of flesh which I demand of him
Is dearly bought, 'tis mine, and I will have it.

Richard II

John of Gaunt's speech

This royal throne of kings, this scepter’d isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,

Henry IV

FALSTAFF

A rascal bragging slave! The rogue fled from me like quicksilver!

DOLL

I' faith, and though followd'st him like a church. Thou whoreson little tidy Bartholomew boar-pig, when wilt thou leave fighting a days and foining a nights, and begin to patch up thine old body for heaven?

The Merry Wives of Windsor

FORD

Do you know Ford Sir?

FALSTAFF

Hang him, poor cuckoldy knave! I know him not; yet I wrong him to call him poor; they say the jealous wittoly knave hath masses of money; for the which his wife seems to me well-favoured. I will use her as the key of the cuckoldy rogue's coffer; and there's my harvest home.

FORD

I would you knew Ford, sir, that you might avoid him if you saw him.

FALSTAFF

Hang him, mechanical salt-butter rogue! I will stare him out of his wits; I will awe him with my cudgel; It shall hang like a meteor over the cuckold's horns. Master Brook, thou shalt know I will predominate over the peasant, and thou shalt lie with his wife. Come to me soon at night. Ford's a knave, and I will aggravate his style; thou, Master Brook, shalt know him for a knave and cuckold.

Much Ado about Nothing

BENEDICT

I'll tell thee what, Prince: a college of wit-crackers cannot flout me out of my humour. Dost thou think I care for a satire or an epigram? No. If a man will be beaten with brains, 'a shall wear nothing handsome about him. In brief, since I purpose to marry, I will think nothing to any purpose that the world can say against it; for man is a giddy thing, and this is my conclusion.

As you like it

TOUCHSTONE

I did dislike the cut of a certian courtier's beard; he sent me word, if I said his beard was not cut well, he was in the mind it was. This is called the Retort Curteous. If I send him word again it was not well cut, he would send me word he cut it to please himself. This is called the Quip Modest. If again it was not well cut, he disabled my judgement. This is called the Reply Churlish. If again it was not well cut, he would answer I spake not true. This is called the Reproof Valiant. If again it was not well cut, he would say I lie. This is called the Countercheck Quarrrelsome. And so to the Lie Circumstantial and the Lie Direct.

Henry V

FLUELLEN

By Jeshu, I am your majesty's countryman, I care not who know it; I will confess it to all the world: I need not be ashamed of your majesty, praised be God, so long as your majesty is an honest man.

Dit bring die jong koning tot trane

KING

God keep me so!

Twelfth Night

MALVOLIO (lees)

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, some have greatness thrust upon 'em.

Julius Ceasar

CASSIUS

Messala,
This is my birthday; on this very day
was Cassius born. Give me thy hand Messala,
Be thou my witness that against my will,
As Pompey was, I am compelled to set
Upon one battle all our liberties.

Hamlet

HAMLET

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio,
Than are dreamt of in your philosophy.

Measure for Measure

Hy waarsku die Duke dat sy van lotjie getik is and "will speak most bitterly and strange"

ISABELLA

Most strange, but yet most truly will I speak
That Angelo's forsworn, is it not strange?
That Angelo's a murderer, is it not strange?
That Angelo is an adulterous thief,
A hypocrite, a virgin violator,
Is it not strange and strange?

DUKE

Nay, it is ten times strange

ISABELLA

It is not truer he is Angelo
Than this is all as true as it is strange
Nay, it is ten times true; for truth is truth
To the end of reckoning.

Othello

OTHELLO

Give me your hand. This hand is moist my lady.

DESDEMONA

It hath felt no age nor known no sorrow.

OTHELLO

This argues fruitfullness and liberal heart:
Hot, hot and moist. This hand of yours requires
A sequister from liberty, fasting and prayer;
Much castigation, excercise devout;
For here's a young and sweating devil here
That commonly rebels. Tis a good hand,
A frank one.

DESDEMONA

You may indeed say so;
For it was that hand that gave away my heart.

OTHELLO

A liberal hand.

All's Well That Ends Well

Parolles preek v Helena oor maagdelikheid.

PAROLLES

There's little can be said in't; 'tis against the rule of nature. To speak on the part of virginity is to accuse your mothers; which is most infallible disobedience. He that hangs himself is a virgin; virginity murders itself, and should be buried in highways, out of all sanctified limit, as a desperate offendress against nature.

Timon of Athens

TIMON

I prithee beat thy drum and get thee gone.

King Lear

King Lear se woorde in die heel eerste toneel

LEAR

and 'tis our fast intent
To shake all cares and business from our age
Conferring them on younger strengths, while we
Unburdened crawl towards death.

Macbeth

BOY

If he were dead you would weep for him; if you would not, it were a good sign that I should quickly have a new father.

Anthony and Cleopatra

CLEOPATRA

Get thee hence; farewell.

CLOWN

I wish you all joy of the worm.

CLEOPATRA

Farewell.

CLOWN

You must think this, look you, that the worm will do it's kind.

CLEOPATRA

Ay, ay; farewell.

CLOWN

Look you, the worm is not to be trusted but in the keeping of wise people, for indeed there is no goodness in the worm.

CLEOPATRA

Take thou no care, it shall be heeded.

CLOWN

Very good. Give it nothing, I pray you, for it is not worth the feeding.

Pericles

PERICLES

A terrible childbed hast thou had, my dear.
No light, no fire. The unfriendly elements
Forgot thee utterly; nor have I time
To give thee hallow'd to thy grave, in the ooze;
Where, for a monument upon thy bones,
And aye-remaining lamps, the belching whale
And humming water must o'erwhelm thy corpse,
Lying with simple shells.

Cymbeline

PISANIO

What shall I need to draw my sword? The paper
Hath cut her throat already.

The Tempest

Die groot epiloog

PROSPERO

Now my charms are all overthrown,
And what strength I have's mine own,
Which is most faint. Now 'tis true,
I must be here confined by you,
Or sent to Naples. Let me not,
since I have my dukedom got,
And pardoned the deceiver, dwell
on this bare island by your spell.
But release me from your bands
with the help of your good hands.
Gentle breath of yours my sails
Must fill, or else my project fails,
Which was to please. Now I want
spirits to enforce, art to enchant;
And my ending is despair
Unless I be relieved by prayer,
Which pierces so that it assaults
Mercy itself, and frees all faults.
As you from crimes would pardoned be
Let your indulgence set me free.
